A water colour painting in which a silhouette of a man rides a red tricycle along a nature trail as silhouetted children and parents play. Behind the figures are four colourful panels of the same tree, each one depicting a different season. A blurred image of a two-wheeled bike is also visible, facing away from the man.

Artist’s Statement:

The purchase of an adult trike four years ago has extended my mobility greatly. I try to get out daily on the local trails meeting many people and children with my RED bike and bell. I used to walk this area and then rode my bike, but MS was starting to slow me down along with my balance. Now I am enjoying the days much more. “I have become a local social butterfly.” Am I embarrassed when I walk dragging my leg and foot or riding my trike strapped in so my leg doesn’t flop off? Do I feel less masculine? No I feel fortunate that I can get outdoors and enjoy nature watching for the blue heron that comes by regularly and realize that MS and the other ailments that continue to mount in my diminishing body do not hold me back.
